Who We Are

Founded in 1997 by Anne Gardner, MBE, CRUMBS is a charitable foundation that works with mixed-ability adults with a range of learning disabilities, stabilised addiction, mental health problems and head injuries, to develop professional and personal skills that supports them into employment and independent living.

What We Do

We provide professionally recognised catering and hospitality education with a range of programmes that are endorsed by the Institute of Hospitality, the industry professional association. Our training helps to develop self-confidence and self-esteem as well as the employment skills that supports the trainees in fulfilling their ambitions in the world of work.

How We Do It

The training programmes are designed to meet the needs of the individual trainee and are based on a comprehensive and detailed set of learning units. The programmes recognise three professional levels of achievement from the Foundation Certificate, progressing to the Certificate and culminating with a Diploma.

A Unique Training and Education

Working in our professional catering centre the trainees learn by doing alongside our food service professionals in the preparation and delivery of the wide range of food service products.

The professional skills they develop are those expected of a hospitality professional working in a commercial operation and include food hygiene and safety, kitchen, housekeeping and bakery skills as well as the essential knowledge and understanding that underpins those skills.

An integral element of the training is now delivered online using a variety of tools and this in turn develops confidence in using technology and enhances the learning experience. The trainees are also directly involved in preparing the comprehensive selection of ready meals and bakery items for the Crumbs@Home delivery service.
